Wigan couldn't bring the same joy to their fans they brought in their first Premiership season, as they escaped a close relegation call on the final day of the 2006-07 League. Latics had a slow start to the season and were on the brink for most part of their campaign. Injuries to key players Henri Camara and Paul Scharner hindered Wigan's season as their form dipped severely, losing eight consecutive matches. On the final day of the season, a 10-man Wigan team fought a hostile encounter and beat their Sheffield opponents 2-1 to secure 17th place. After Paul Jewell's resignation, his assistant Chris Hutchings has taken over the reigns. Jewell has wasted no time and has signed Bramble, Melchiot, Michael Brown and a few more. The Lactics will hope that the new recruits will make up for last year’s loss and spring up some surprises this coming season.
