Blackburn Rovers failed to repeat their impressive 2005-06 season performance and finished 10th in the Premier League last season. Rovers had a disappointing start to the season with only one point from a possible nine. They had a great run in the FA Cup before they were knocked out by Chelsea for a place in the final. In Europe, Mark Hughes' side began well by topping Group E in the UEFA Cup but crashed out in the later stages. The only silver lining for Blackburn last season was their qualification for the Intertoto Cup. For the 2007-08 season, the Rovers have signed three players including Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz from Bayern Munich which is a major bonus to the team's campaign as he is known for his aerial skills. Rovers have retained the South African Benni McCarthy who netted 18 league goals last season. Mark Hughes will hope that the McCarthy-Cruz camaraderie will bring some European success to the club this season.
